Knock, Knock...Who's There?
by Barb Friedman

When opportunity knocks, are you ready to answer? If that special situation comes your way, are you organized to be able to accept the challenge? There are so many opportunities that are available to us, but many people miss them because they are not prepared.

A missed promotion is one example of lack of organization. Perhaps your resume is not up to date, or you can’t even find it and have to recreate it. By the time you have re- written and formatted all of the information, the job may have been offered to someone else. I know that can seem unfair, especially if you are the most qualified for the position. However, if you aren’t ready to step up to the plate, there are lots of others waiting in the same line.

Just think how different the path my business might have taken if I had not been ready to accept the Dr. Phil challenge. A golden opportunity would have passed me by and the likelihood of that same project coming my way would be very slim.

In order to make the most of each day and opportunity, you must be prepared. That means your resume is easily accessible, you are on task with your projects, and your contacts are current.

In your personal life, are your systems set up so that you can react to changes, if necessary? What if a friend called and said they wanted to drop by and they were only 15 minutes away? Would you be comfortable to have them 'drop in' on such short notice? If not, why not?

You CAN meet the challenge at anytime. Here’s how:

1. Create systems and routines at work and at home

2. Understand your goals

3. Be prepared to seize opportunities

4. Be organized to create new opportunities

Knowing that you are capable of accepting the challenge will reduce a great deal of stress and anxiety in your life. Invest the time it takes to organize yourself so that you can continue to grow and make the most of every situation.

Don’t Agonize...Organize!
