Organize To Sell More 10 Steps to Increase Sales by Barb Friedman You know it's time to get organized, but you just don't have the time to read all the books and articles. You want to get started, now. Here is your fast 10 step program to get organized: 1. Calendar: This is MOST important. You may choose a written format, computer program or personal digital assistant. Use whichever method you prefer. Make sure the calendar has time increments already on it. This will help you to track your time and stay focused. 2. Create a master schedule for routine items. Regularly scheduled meetings and appointments should be inserted in your calendar immediately. Personal time should also be scheduled, i.e. exercise, meditation, time with friends. 3. List tasks, then prioritize each one. If you have a project that involves multiple steps, break down each item before scheduling in your calendar. 4. Insert into the calendar. This step is critical to your success. Tasks and appointments need to be planned and carried out in an efficient and effective manner. By maintaining your calendar, you will remain focused and on track. 5. Include paper management tasks as appointments. Sorting mail, taking action, and bill paying are all activities that need to be scheduled and planned. That's the secret to how people get it all done! 6. Set up systems for everything. Out of habits come routines and routines create consistency and maintenance for us. 7. Open mail daily. Record to do's in your calendar. Then file papers accordingly. If it requires action, make sure to place necessary documents in your active tickler file. Mail should require 15-20 minutes a day. That's a lot better than 3 hours over the weekend! 8. Keep like things together. Just like filing like documents and topics together, the same is true in any category. Like products should be stored together so that you can see what your supply is at a glance. 9. Honor your commitments to yourself. Sometimes we get so busy with the demands of work and family, that we under-estimate the importance of taking care of ourselves. Write in your personal time before the day comes. Stay true to your appointment with yourself. It may be the most important use of your time that week. 10. Maintenance is the key. Once you have formulated and learned your system, the secret is to maintain it. Plan the time in your schedule for mail, paperwork, and maintenance. I promise you that if you follow the above 10 step program, you will notice a major difference in your life. Start living the life you deserve. © 2005 - Barb Friedman - Organize IT Get organizing tips, ideas articles and more at the Organized IT web site. http://www.organizeitbiz.com Editors and publishers may reprint this article as long as it's reprinted in its entirety and the signature line remains intact.
